Über das Projekt:
„With the time and space afforded to me at Tanz Station Wuppertal, I plan to create a self-choreographed solo. I’ve long been drawn to the paradox of the somewhat clinical abstraction in both neoclassical and postmodern dance: I question sometimes, can dance ever be truly abstract or neutral, when it is always embodied by a human who is full of memory, identity, regret, history, dreams, origin, and hope?
This solo may become a study in abstracting a feeling, like unearthing distant artifacts buried in sand, knowing I’ve left my metal detector at home, an ocean away. It is not about illustrating emotion, but distilling it. A choreography of strange and soft articulations, born from solitude, secrecy, self-reflection, and not knowing. Abstract dance that is undoubtedly charged, abstaining from neutrality and attempting to subvert the lineage of works I’ve known as a dancer, in an effort to finally understand them.“
