Video workshop: My dance portrait

4 dancers + 1 documentary filmmaker + 2 cameras = 4 individual filmic dance portraits

Filming and being filmed – in front of and behind the camera:

  • What constitutes my own portrait?
  • How can I present myself and my artistic work on film?
  • How can my individual custom-fit film portrait be realised?

A funded workshop of Tanz Station – Barmer Bahnhof ‘Next Station’ with Kim Münster (documentary filmmaker/Treibsand Film) and accompanied by Thusnelda Mercy & Pascal Merighi (artistic directors of Tanz Station – Barmer Bahnhof).

Who is the offer aimed at? All dancers who are interested in dance-camera-portrait work. On the basis of your letters of motivation, we will select 4 interested persons who can take part in the free video workshop.

What you can expect:
Over three days we would like to talk about and work on the development and realisation of dance portraits. The documentary filmmaker Kim Münster has been associated with dance film for several years and will implement the workshop together with Thusnelda Mercy & Pascal Merighi.

# Day 1
We get to know each other and get in the mood: Let’s start with a warm-up by Thusnelda. We introduce ourselves and get to know each other’s different live stories, dance focuses and visions. • What do you want to show about yourself? • Which aspects are important to you? • How would you like to be perceived?

# Day 2
We deal with the voice and presence through the word. An interview training, the choice of locations and the development of the short performance for the film will fill this day well.

# Day 3
We work with the camera and apply what we have worked on. We try to work with the movement of the camera, adapt the camera to the chosen performance and vice versa. Here the dancers themselves slip into the role of camerawoman/-man. Perspective, framing and movement will be topics.

No finished films will be made in the workshop, but the way to get there will be learned and tried out. The resulting film material can, however, be used with credit.

Are you interested?
Then send a short, informative letter of motivation to anmeldung@tanz-station.de by 27 February 2022 and convince us that you should take part in the workshop.

We look forward to meeting you!
