About the project:
“Warm Weight” is a contemporary dance duo initiated by Julia Kayser and Théo Vanpop, choreographers and performers of Empty Rooms.
The piece offers a physical language that oscillates between the constraints of our social masks and the sincere impulse of our instincts and emotions. Through three distinct acts, the dancers explore the balance between the ego as a creative force and as an obstacle to overcome.
This artistic proposal emerged from numerous conversations about contemporary social phenomena, such as hyper-individualism, the radicalization of discourse, and global conflicts and the suffering they generate. These observations led us to explore a universal theme: the ego and its influence on the human being. The ego shapes our gestures, choices, ways of expressing ourselves, relationships with others, and thus our way of dancing. “Warm Weight” is an invitation to rethink the body and creation in their most essential forms.
About the artists:
Empty Rooms is the company formed by Julia Kayser and Théo Vanpop. As freelance performers, they work on different projects and companies across Europe, sharing a strong interest in creation, improvisation, and research. Together, they develop a co-creation practice aimed at defining their artistic identity and building a sincere and authentic choreographic language.
Julia Kayser studied at Trinity Laban (London) and, in Spain, has collaborated with creators and companies such as Janet Novás, Sharon Fridman, Eyas Dance Project, Sol Picó and Mari Paula. Alongside their work as performers, both have been developing their own choreographic work since 2024.
Théo Vanpop works on various projects in Spain and abroad. He began dancing with the Ballet Ireland company in 2022. He has also had the opportunity to collaborate with choreographers such as Daniel Abreu, Elias Aguirre and Otra Danza, under the direction of Asun Noales.
