„Sydney an der Wupper – Dreamtime“

With the film series „Dem Land seine Bilder geben“, the Filmbüro NW shows films from the last 42 years at their places of origin. The dance film „Sydney an der Wupper – Dreamtime“ by Bettina Woernle from 1982 kicks off the series in Wuppertal and will be shown in a digital version for the first time.

About the film:

Meryl Tankard, a young Australian, has been living and working as a dancer with Tanztheater Wuppertal for three years. Her view of the city, of people, her memories of the other continent, a different culture, different colours, sounds and temperatures – that’s what the film tells about.

Bettina Woernle’s dance film was awarded the Filmband in Gold, screened at the 1983 Berlinale and is not only a wonderfully stylised 47-minute journey, but also a contemporary testimony to the special city of Wuppertal in the 1980s.

More about the programme:

Director Bettina Woernle and dancer Urs Kaufmann will be present at the event. Presentation: Kim Münster

Before „Sydney an der Wupper – Dreamtime“, the short film „Shape shifter“ by Magdalena Häufler will be shown. Magdalena Häufler is a student of audiovisual media design at the University of Wuppertal and is currently preparing her bachelor’s film.
