For many refugees, the story of a new life begins with the study of a new language. Five artists take those individual stories as a starting point for a performance combining dance, voices, and music. What is told is the difficult journey from Arabic to Italian; a journey made up of new expressions, new words, even new phonemes. It is an absolutely necessary path to restore dignity and hope, remembering that the word “democracy” is synonymous with linguistic education.

Compagnia Lèél, founded in Rome in 2020 by artistic directors Leda Di Piro and Elettra Rossi, dedicates its work to the choreography of sound and movement. Within a workshop performance at the end of Residency Plus the dancers will give insight into their artistic work. Following the performance, an audience discussion with the residents as well as Thusnelda Mercy and Pascal Merighi will take place.
