‘Why’ is the question we liked to ask most as children. And it was the curiosity behind that question that made us such good learners, assimilating knowledge and skills with ease and enjoyment. With this question I would like to invite you to explore the motives of your body: What makes my bones move? When does my myofascial system react? How can I coordinate my muscular activities? What do I focus my mind on? And where does my body fall to?
During this workshop we will work out dynamic movement sequences in a playful, as well as analytical way. We will put visual material and anatomically based information in direct relation to our personal body experience. With these impulses we will sharpen our sensations, our understanding and our sense of orientation. Gradually approaching increasingly complex movement sequences, from standing to the crawling and from falling to jumping and everything that may happen in between, for good reasons.
The Axis Syllabus (author: Frey Faust) is a living archive of information that is regularly updated. It contains systematically organised knowledge maps about the body in motion. Information from the fields of biomechanics, anatomy, physics and medicine are examined in their mutual interrelaton and interaction. Its application aims at exploring and training functionally meaningful coordination adapted to one’s body specificities.

Manuela Martella teaches Axis Syllabus, is a dance artist, performer, independent curator, author, costume designer, project coach, and active member of ASRM (Axis Syllabus International Research Meshwork). She is particularly interested in anything that can facilitate and enrich the learning process. Her teaching is used in movement analysis, dance, partnering and contact improvisation. Since 2018, solo, duo and collective performances have been an integral part of her research. She is interested in the effects that stress and physical endurance can have on the learning process.
