You go to a concert, walk into a packed room; perhaps you sit down at a table, find a seat, or you stand because you want to dance; you get yourself a drink, have a chat, maybe you switch off your mobile, or perhaps you quickly check your messages. Then it starts – applause – you want to finish a conversation quickly, but the music has already begun.

We are Béla (double bass) and Jakob (saxophone), the duo Entretemps, and we’d like to try something a little different with you: with “Physical Listening”, we invite you – even before the music begins – to step away from the daily flood of impressions and experience the music from a place of stillness. We’ll be joined by the dancer Thusnelda Mercy: using movements and exercises from contemporary dance, we’ll settle into the space together with you, loosen up and become aware of our bodies. This is done through body language – without a single word. No previous dance experience is required.

Afterwards, we invite you to lie down, close your eyes and listen to our music. We’ve been playing together for five years, blending chamber music, improvisation, jazz and folk influences, and in doing so have developed our own musical language using the double bass and saxophone. At the Tanz Station, we’ll be performing a special arrangement of our new programme, Kolibruits, for you.
